Our research group is particularly interested in the relationship between sleep and neuronal plasticity. To this end, we use various behavioural paradigms with imaging techniques such as functional and diffusion MRI, combined EEG-MRI or MEG and analysis methods from the field of machine learning.
Current projects, in which you will be involved, are investigating, e.g., how the process of falling asleep affects stimulus processing, memory, and brain activity. An important part of the work will involve the analysis of existing sleep EEG and MRI data with the aim of describing the cortical and subcortical processes that determine the transition from wakefulness to sleep. In the course of the project, new experimental data should also be collected. For more information about our research, please visit www.gaislab.info.
Applicants should either have a Master's degree in psychology, neuroscience, cognitive science or a related field – experience with Matlab or Python and with the collection and analysis of MRI or EEG data is helpful here – or a Master's degree from the field of machine learning, neural information processing, or electrophysiological signal processing – here very good programming skills and experience with EEG, MEG or MRI data are desirable.
PhDs candidates can join the Graduate Training Centre of Neuroscience (www.neuroschool-tuebingen.de), and it is possible to apply for a spot in the prestigious International Max Planck Research School "The Mechanisms of Mental Function and Dysfunction". These offer a PhD program with advanced training in neuroscience and soft skills.
We offer remuneration in accordance with TV-L (collective wage agreement for the Public Service of the German Federal States) in addition to all the customary benefits granted to employees working in public services. Severely handicapped persons with equal qualifications are given preferential consideration. Interview expenses unfortunately cannot be covered. Please note the applicable vaccination regulations. As the University of Tübingen aims to increase the proportion of women among its academic staff, women are strongly encouraged to apply. Personnel appointments will be made pursuant to the fundamental stipulations of the legal statutes for universities in Germany.
The position is temporary with the purpose of completing a PhD. Remuneration is 65% according to TV-L E13.
For further information about the position and to apply, please contact Prof. Dr. Steffen Gais ([email protected]). Send your application by e-mail as a single PDF file.
Applications until 6th May 2024 will be given preference.
