Offer Description

The PhD candidate will develop alternative materials based low-carbon formulation of concrete with the help of artificial intelligence. The objectives will be to :

  • have available database of the performances of conventional mortars and concretes and those based on alternative materials according to the formulation;
  • develop mix-design modelling and artificial intelligence methods (multivariate regression methods, deep learning...) and allowing to predict (1) the performance of the material from a formulation (direct problem) and (2) the formulation according to the specifications (inverse problem).

Skills/Qualifications

The applicant should have a 1st class (or high) honours degree in civil engineering or related subjects of physico-chemical engineering with relevant experimental experience. Also, the applicant must have or be currently enrolled in a Master 2 degree with distinction or equivalent, in a relevant field (i.e., construction materials, geomaterials, or mechanics of durability of materials).
The applicant should be able to demonstrate a strong background in literature research and advanced laboratory testing of (geo)materials for construction. Since the PhD candidate will be working in interdisciplinary environment, the ability to work in a team and strong communication are essential. Working experience in numerical analysis, particularly proficiency in a programming language (e.g., Python), and interest in digital tools, are highly desirable ; the PhD work will allow an upskilling in artificial intelligence.
For analysing literature research and writing articles, excellent knowledge of Engish is essential. For practical reasons basic (or good) knowledge of French language is desirable.
