Postdoctoral Position in Proteomics and Cell Signaling (3853C)
Tenure: Two years, with a potential extension of additional one year
Background
The Department of Proteomics at the NNF Center for Protein Research is headed by Prof. Dr. Matthias Mann, and the "Proteomics and Cell Signaling" group is lead by Group Leader Dr. Chunaram Choudhary. By joining our team, you will be part of a young and dynamic team consisting of international researchers from EU, Asia and USA. We use cutting-edge mass spectrometry (MS) technologies for unbiased identification and quantification of posttranslational modifications as well as for global proteome quantitation (Mol Cell. 2012;46(2):212-25; MCP; 2011 Oct;10(10):M111.013284; Sci. Signaling, 2011 Jul 26;4(183):ra48; Nat Rev Mol Cell Biol. 2010;11(6):427-39.; Mol Cell. 2009;36(2):326-39.; Science. 2009;325(5942):834-40.).
The department aims at continuously improving and applying the proteomics technology to investigate diverse biological processes. Using these approaches we will study cellular outcomes at "systems-level" in response to different perturbations (such as growth factor stimulation, chemical and genetic perturbations etc.).
Furthermore, we use protein and peptide pull-down approaches to identify specific interaction partners. In addition to the state-of-the-art mass spectrometry infrastructure, the department is well equipped for performing follow-up studies using molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry techniques.
The Center offers the latest technologies and expertise for genome-wide siRNA screens, high resolution microscopy, live cell imaging, and protein biophysical characterizations.
Job description
Our group has improved mass spectrometry-based proteomics methods for unbiased analysis of in vivo acetylation (Science Aug 14;325(5942):834-40.; Sci. Signaling, 2011 Jul 26; Mol Cell 2012 Apr 27;46(2):212-25; 4(183):ra48), and ubiquitylation sites (MCP; 2011 Oct;10(10):M111.013284; MCP 2012 Jul 11. (Epub ahead of print); Nat Cell Biol, In press).
The applicant will use this cutting-edge technology to identify regulatory modification sites under different chemical or genetic perturbations in mammalian cell lines and mouse models. The candidate is also expected to perform protein-protein interaction analyses, and perform biological follow-up experiments on novel and interesting findings derived from these proteomic screens.
Qualifications
- The candidate should have demonstrated excellent scientific productivity evidenced by high-quality research publications, be able to conduct independent and creative research, and show good inter-personal and communication skills.
- The candidate is required to have PhD or equivalent degree in natural or medical science.
- Excellent scientific track record, including at least one publication as first author in a high quality, peer reviewed international journal.
- Knowledge in bioinformatics and large-scale data analysis will be considered an advantage.
- Knowledge in one or more of the following areas would be considered an advantage: cell signaling, genetics and cell biology, embryonic stem cells, high-throughput protein-protein interactions, or chromatin biology.
- Prior experience in high resolution mass spectrometry is NOT essential.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
- An analytical aptitude for devising innovative scientific or technical solutions.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm, motivation, flexibility and confidence.
Employment conditions
The Department of Proteomics at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research is offering a post doctoral position in the Proteomics and Cell Signaling Group (Dr. Chunaram Choudhary´s group).
Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
The position will be at the level of postdoctoral fellow and the salary depends on seniority, as agreed between the Ministry of Finance and AC, around 31.821-33.500 DKK/month (approximately 5.400-5.700 USD/month). To the basic salary, a monthly contribution to a pension fund is added (17.1% of the salary), and a supplement could be negotiated, dependent on the candidate´s experiences and qualifications.
In all cases, the ability to perform the job will be the primary consideration, and thus we encourage all - regardless of their personal background and status - to apply. The tentative start date is 15th October, 2012, or soon thereafter, and the duration of the position is 2 years.
