We are looking for a highly motivated postdoc with experience in working with human stem cells, to start May 1, 2022, or after agreement.
Background
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research’s vision is to strengthen interdisciplinary research that transforms our basic understanding of the mechanisms that underlie metabolic health and disease, and to accelerate this knowledge towards new prevention and treatment strategies. We were established in 2010, and in 2017, we moved into new laboratories, offices and meeting rooms in the Maersk Tower www.maersktower.ku.dk .
The Center has around 260 employees who work in an international, highly collaborative research environment across a range of biomedical disciplines. You can read more about us here:www.cbmr.ku.dk .
Our group and research
The position available is in the Translational Cell Metabolism Group headed by Associate Professor Camilla Schéele. The research group study human adipose tissue. Major focus areas include human adipose tissue heterogeneity, brown fat recruitment and how secreted factors from brown adipocytes affect metabolism by mediating crosstalk at cellular or tissue level. You can read more about the research of the Scheele group at https://cbmr.ku.dk/research/integrative-metabolism-and-environmental-influences/scheele-group/
Project Description
This post-doc position is part of the ERC-funded project “BALDER”, with which we aim to identify novel peptides secreted from brown adipocytes and investigate their effect on neuronal plasticity and activity. The candidate will create neuronal model systems by differentiating human IPS cells into different types of neurons. These cell types will be integrated in high content screening systems for identification of novel molecules that mediate cross talk between brown fat and brain. The group has recently invested in new technology for the project, including the MEA system to assess neuronal activity and a Leica THUNDER Imager Live Cell & 3D Cell Culture & 3D Assay.
The Scheele group can offer a multidisciplinary and collaborative group with a strong international network within brown fat biology and metabolism. The group currently consist of 5 post-docs, 1 lab technician, 1 research assistant and 1 bachelor student.
Profile
We are looking for a highly skilled, self-driven, positive, and collaborative scientist with the following competencies and qualifications:
- A PhD degree in, Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Molecular Biomedicine, or related sciences.
- Expertise in culturing and differentiating human stem cells into 3D cultures, spheroids or organoids.
- Expertise in imaging techniques such as live cell imaging, 2D/3D imaging, tissue clearing and/or laser capture techniques.
- Experience in working in an international environment
- Interest in human metabolism
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral
Terms of employment
The postdoc position is a full-time position for 3 years. Starting date is May 1, 2022, or after agreement.
Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated.
Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.
