PhD fellow in metabolic responses in bacteria to antimicrobial treatment
Department of Veterinary Disease Biology at University of Copenhagen offers a PhD scholarship commencing September 1st 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter. The application deadline is June 27th 2011.
Project description
The PhD project aims to understand the metabolic changes that antimicrobial resistant bacteria undergo in the presence of therapeutic concentrations of selected antimicrobial substances, and how resistance plasmids influence this response.
The student will have a specific research assignment with emphasis on metabolic changes in antibiotic resistant bacteria during treatment with antibiotics and how this is influenced by the presence of resistance plasmids. The student will be affiliated to a newly established EU-initial training site TRAIN-ASAP, where the student will carry out his/her research in close collaboration with 13 other PhD students, mostly from other EU-countries, and all with a research topic related to aspects of drug development. The project will be carried out in the section for Microbiology, which currently houses one of the largest research groups in antibiotic resistance in Denmark.
