PhD scholarship in "Co-morbidity between Infectious and Non-Communicable Diseases in Low- and Middle-Income Countries"
Applications are invited for a 3-year PhD scholarship at the International Health Unit at the Department of International Health, Immunology and Microbiology with starting date 1 September 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Deadline for applications: 3rd of August 2012, 23.59 PM.
The International Health Unit conducts research than span a broad spectrum, including global health issues, regional and local differences in health conditions, and international health programmes and their effects. The most important themes are health systems and society, health in poor societies, disaster management and prevention, and environmental health. Research is conducted in collaboration with health care researchers, cultural researchers and social scientists.
Job/Study description
The research theme "Co-morbidities between Infectious and Non-Communicable Diseases" is part of the International Health Unit´s strategic research initiative. The applicant´s research proposal should focus on the possible links and interactions between infectious and non-communicable disease(s) from a basic, translational, clinical and/or public health perspective.
The candidate will perform the following tasks:
- Development of study protocol
- Field work in a low- or middle-income country (up to 8 months)
- Data analysis and drafting of scientific publications
- Attending PhD courses
- Teaching and dissemination of research findings
Qualifications
- Candidates are required to have a Master degree within the field of health or science
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals an advantage
- Experiences from working and/or researching abroad, preferably in a low- or middle-income country an advantage
The applicant will be assessed according to the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation Executive Order no 284 of 25. April 2008.The Executive Order is available at www.ku.dk/regel.
It is a pre-requisite that the candidate is enrolled as a PhD student at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences in accordance with the provision of Executive Order no. 18 of January 14th 2008 regarding the PhD degree.

The closing data for application is 23.59 PM, 03.08.2012. Applications received later than this date will not be considered. By the middle of august all applicants will have received information regarding the evaluation of their application.
