Job Description

A 3-year PhD fellowship is available in organic chemistry and homogeneous catalysis at the Department of Chemistry, DTU from October 1, 2024, or soon thereafter. The project will be carried out under the supervision of Professor Robert Madsen and will be performed in the Section for Organic Chemistry.

The section hosts nine faculty members and more than 30 PhD students and postdocs. The research topics include complex molecule synthesis, homogeneous catalysis, chemical biology, and NMR spectroscopy. The research environment is diverse and international with friendly and supportive colleagues.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The main task of the candidate will be to develop novel photocatalyzed reactions with bio-derived substrates for forming carbon-carbon bonds.

The aim is to identify new transformations for converting inexpensive starting materials into more valuable compounds. The reactions will be optimized, the scope investigated with a variety of substrates and the mechanisms studied with experimental methods.

  • You must have a degree in chemistry or chemical engineering with a strong experimental and theoretical background in organic synthesis.
  • You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.
