PhD scholarship in Multi-Component Fuel Oxidation – DTU Chemical Engineering

Job Description

We offer you an opportunity to join DTU Chemical Engineering in the development of experimental and modelling tools to facilitate use of sustainable fuels in engines. The project will be conducted in a collaboration with manufacturers of maritime engines and leading research groups. You will be based in the CHEC research group at DTU Chemical Engineering in a dynamic international research environment. The research in CHEC is mainly based on reaction engineering and transport processes. They involve heterogeneous catalysis and thermal processes related to clean and efficient production of chemicals and (bio)fuels, heat, power, and energy intensive materials such as cement and minerals.
Responsibilities and qualifications

  • Your overall focus will be to strengthen the department’s competences within experimental characterization and modeling of the oxidation of dual-fuel mixtures, including those of diesel fuels with ammonia or methanol. 
  • You will develop a methodology to handle multicomponent liquid fuels in flow reactor experiments and interpret results in terms of detailed reaction mechanisms. 
  • You are expected to work closely with industry partners in adapting the chemical models for use in CFD calculations. 
  • The position will involve co-supervision of BSc and MSc students. You will work with nearby colleagues, and with both academic and industrial partners in Denmark as well as abroad. 

You must have a two-year master's degree in chemical engineering (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.
Approval and Enrolment 
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. The assessment will be conducted by Professor Peter Glarborg and Senior Researcher Hamid Hashemi.

Salary and appointment terms 
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years. Expected starting date is 1 September 2024.
