PhD scholarship in Model based Digitalization of Process Systems – DTU Chemical Engineering
Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark
Job Description

DTU Chemical Engineering invites applications for a PhD position in Model based Digitalization of Process Systems.
Digitalization of process plants (miniature, lab, bench, pilot or full-scale) using efficient data aquisition methods, can give extra benefits both for research and instruction. Systematic storing of on-line/off-line measurements points and the associated meta data, is the foundation for proper analysis and centralized data storage enable systematic comparison of patterns across multiple experimental campaigns. Furthermore, real-time visualization of process data - efficiently communicated in dashboards or user interfaces - can aid the experimentalist while the experiment is running and lead to even better experiments.
Responsibilities and qualifications
The recruited candidate will undertake research across interdisciplinary topics namely: (1) Process modeling and process data aquisition, using first principles (balance equations, thermodynamics), data science. (2) Develop synergistic integration of model-based with data-based methods for digitalization and improved visualization/communication. (3) Demonstration and validation of these concepts and methods on relevant case studies within chemical (and biochemical) engineering. Case studies are expected to be drawn from processes for fluid separations, including (but not limited to) absorption, distillation, extraction, stripping or similar.
The preferred candidate should:

  • Hold an MSc degree in chemical engineering or similar.
  • Have strong skills in process modelling (mechanistic and Machine Learning)
  • Have experimental experiences with process system in bench/pilot/industrial scale.
  • Be proficient in programming (e.g. Matlab, Phyton, Julia)
  • Have experience with working with databases, Git and Jupiter Notebooks
  • Have strong writing and communication skills
  • Pursue presentation of research findings in scientific papers, conferences, public domain and other outreach activities
