UVic faculty fellowship competition, 2014/15


Course- release fellowship for UVic faculty members
The Centre for Studies in Religion and Society invites applications from UVic faculty members for one 6-month fellowship commencing July 1, 2014 or January 1, 2015.
Purpose

The purpose of the UVic Faculty Fellowship is to provide course-release time and a working environment conducive to the pursuit of scholarly research projects. Fellowship recipients join other visiting, post-doc and graduate student fellows at the centre in a dynamic interdisciplinary research environment.


Topics

The Centre welcomes applications from all disciplinary backgrounds for projects that meet its mandate of promoting the scholarly study of religion in relation to any and all aspects of society and culture, both contemporary and historical. Topics may include, but are not limited to, examinations of religious themes within the areas of ethics, health, law, environment, technology, government and public policy, human conflict, art, literature, the media, and currents and debates in philosophy and the natural sciences.


Value
  • Teaching-release time equal to the value of one 1.5 credit course
  • Office space (including wireless Internet, fax and copy services) in the Centre’s Sedgewick premises

Eligibility
  • Faculty members with regular tenured or tenure track appointments at the University of Victoria
  • Past recipients of the UVic Faculty Fellowship after an interval of at least five years

Conditions
Successful applicants will
  • conduct their work in the Centre's quarters
  • participate actively in the programs and activities of the Centre
  • give at least one public seminar or lecture on the theme of their research
  • acknowledge the CSRS in all publications arising from the fellowship and notify the centre of any such books or articles for inclusion in our database.

Application Procedures
Applications should include one copy of each of the following:

a UVic curriculum vitae (double-sided); a descriptive title of the proposed project and an abstract of 150 words; a detailed statement (max. 2000 words) of the project’s objectives and methodology in a form that is directed to an interdisciplinary review committee and that clearly demonstrates how the project fits with the CSRS mandate; a letter of support from the applicant's Department Chair granting release time from all administrative duties as well as from teaching duties down to no more than one course; the names and full addresses of three (3) scholars who might evaluate the proposed project. The applicant is encouraged to visit the centre and/or to meet with the CSRS director prior to submitting an application.
