The Department of Accountancy and Finance in the Faculty of Business and Economics is looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of financial reporting.

Position

  • You will work actively on the preparation of a PhD thesis in the field of financial reporting in the nonprofit context. More specifically, you will examine the determinants (e.g., organization- as well as industry-level characteristics) and consequences (e.g., the effect on (future) donations received, the effect on financial statement quality) of external certification (e.g., financial transparency labels, ethics in fundraising) in the nonprofit context.
  • You will publish articles in international scientific journals.
  • You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks for the Faculty of Business and Economics.

Profile

  • You hold a Master degree in Economics, Business Economics, Commercial Engineering, or similar. Students in their final Master year can also apply.
  • You can demonstrate excellent study results.
  • You have a genuine interest in scientific research and are familiar with statistics.
  • You have strong communication and presentation skills.
  • You have strong writing skills (in English).
  • Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision .
  • Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies .
  • You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
  • Enthusiastic and motivated to do research.

What we offer

  • We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of one year, which can be extended to a maximum of four years, subject to a positive evaluation.
  • The starting date is July 15, 2024 at the latest (or sooner if possible for the candidate).
  • Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts  for doctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP). The net salary amounts to about €2400 per month.
  • You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance, and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
  • You will do most of your work at the City Campus in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
