The University of Antwerp is a dynamic, forward-thinking, European university. We offer an innovative academic education to more than 20000 students, conduct pioneering scientific research and play an important service-providing role in society. We are one of the largest, most international and most innovative employers in the region. With more than 6000 employees from 100 different countries, we are helping to build tomorrow's world every day. Through top scientific research, we push back boundaries and set a course for the future – a future that you can help to shape.
The Faculty of Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences is looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of biomedical sciences: cell plasticity in glioblastoma.
Position
- You will work actively on the preparation of a PhD thesis on cell plasticity in glioblastoma.
- Short description: Glioblastoma multiforme is an aggresive brain tumor that is typified by high heterogeneity, extensive infiltration, and cell state plasticity. Building on our pioneering cell biological work (*), we aim to expose a novel therapeutic entry point by focusing on the vulnerability and resilience of the cell nucleus in this devastating cancer type. To this end, we will molecularly dissect a panel of patient-derived glioblastoma cells of varying aggressiveness and study their infiltrative capacity in cerebral organoids using cutting edge microscopy technologies, available through our internationally recognized core facility (https://www.acam-uantwerpen.be ). For this project, there will be close collaboration and exchange with teams in Belgium, France and Norway.
