Salary (FTE):

Work type:
Full Time - Fixed Term
Location:

School of Civil Engineering
The Centre for Solid Waste Bioprocessing is part of both the Schools of Civil Engineering and Chemical Engineering. The laboratory facilities will be moving to the new Advanced Engineering Building in mid-2013, the newest building on the UQ campus. The laboratory includes temperature controlled reactors up to 200L in size, a walk in refrigeration, freezer and temperature controlled rooms and a range of analytical facilities so that all compositional analyses are done on-site. The Centre for Solid Waste Bioprocessing has established links with UQ's extensive molecular biology laboratories and microscopy facilities, enabling successful candidates to expand their research activities in a number of directions. Many projects by the Centre are conducted jointly with very successful UQ research Centres, especially the Advanced Water Management Centre and the Australian Centre for Ecogenomics
The role
The Centre is seeking postdoctoral researchers to expand the activities of the Centre in innovative bio-processes, especially processes that utilise organic solid waste. Successful candidates will have a background in designing, monitoring and analysing bio-processes. The Centre is seeking a variety of backgrounds, ranging from Chemical or Environmental Engineers with experience in designing and modelling bio-processes to microbiologists with experience in microbial ecology and correlating phenotypic and phylogenetic observations.
The appointment will be made at Research Academic Level A or B, commensurate with the demonstrated relevant skills and experience of the appointee.
The person
The successful applicant must have a PhD in a process engineering field (Chemical, Environmental, biological) or a closely-related field, or a PhD in microbiology with experience in microbial ecology and the development of enrichments in natural systems or bioreactors. Evidence of the quality and impact of research must be demonstrated through publications in internationally recognised outlets. Evidence of leadership through a record of applications for external competitive research funding is also desirable.
Remuneration
This is a fixed term appointment, from 3 to 5 years, at Research Academic Level A or Level B (depending on experience, skills and qualifications).
The remuneration package for Level A will be in the range $70,676.68 - $75,876.70 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $82,691.72 - $88,775.74 p.a.).
The remuneration package for Level B will be in the range $79,861.17 - $85,850.63 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $93,437.57 - $100,445.24 p.a).
