Scholarship Description

This project aims to break the barrier to the wider acceptance of magnesium products is that existing commercial magnesium alloys have inferior strength compared to aluminium alloys & to develop ultrahigh strength magnesium alloys for fabricating aircraft framework. It involves extrusion of selected magnesium alloys under a range of conditions, mechanical testing & microstructural characterisation using world-class electron microscopy facilities located in the Monash Centre for Electron Microscopy. To be eligible you must hold an appropriate undergraduate degree in materials science and engineering or a similar discipline.
