- Friends of Dr Indran Chelvanayagam have contributed $60,000 to establish a fund for the purpose of providing, in perpetuity, an annual travel scholarship in rural ophthalmology for students enrolled in the course for the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB BS) at The University of Western Australia. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist and enable a student who intends to pursue a career in rural and remote medicine, to spend a week during their Level 5 studies or immediately prior to the commencement of their Level 6 studies accompanying an ophthalmologist who is providing ophthalmic care to remote communities in Western Australia, by contributing towards expenses associated with travel, including airfares, accommodation and ancillary costs.
