Ignition Bursary

The Ignition Bursary Fund is an initiative of the National Priorities Industry Linkage Fund (NPILF) Project, supporting UniSQ students to gain professional skills and participate in opportunities to develop their entrepreneurial and innovative mindsets. There are two categories of activities covered by the Ignition Bursary Fund.

UniSQ-sourced activities

Opportunities being promoted by UniSQ are advertised on CareerHub .  Information is added to this events page regularly, so keep checking it regularly for all the latest information.

Student-sourced activities

Students may find opportunities that they would like to seek funding for.  Examples could include:

  • Attending a conference or event that is related to your studies
  • Participating in a professional development workshop
  • Participating in an innovation challenge

Please note that events must be within Australia, travel overseas is not supported under this funding.

Once you’ve found an opportunity, please submit your application for funding here .

The Ignition Bursary Fund will remain open until Friday 27th October 2024, or until otherwise stated.

All activities must be paid for and completed by 31st December 2024.


Value

The bursary can cover some or all of the cost of a professional development or entrepreneurial activity up to a maximum total value of $1500 per student.

Students will be asked to provide a cost breakdown if submitting a self-sourced activity for consideration.


Eligibility

To be eligible for the Ignition Bursary, students must meet the following core criteria, regardless of the activity they are undertaking.  Students must:

  • Be currently enrolled in a UniSQ program AND enrolled in at least one course at the time of application AND at least one course at the time the activity will take place. Students who are graduating or are deferring their studies for the period the activity is taking place, are not eligible to apply for a bursary.

  • Have sound academic standing (you will be asked to provide your GPA in your application).
  • Agree to abide by the UniSQ Student General Code of Conduct Policy throughout their participation in supported activities.
  • Agree to provide a report on the supported activity and share their feedback on the experience. This reporting is necessary to fulfil funding requirements set by the Australian Government and to inform future activities and planning.
  • Meet any additional criteria specific to the program or activity for which they are applying.
  • Understand that all insurances and other costs outside of the approved bursary activity, must be covered by each student according to their individual needs. This is not the responsibility of UniSQ.

Outcomes are assessed as equitably as possible and are at the discretion of the Industry Projects Team. All decisions are final.

Tips for completing a successful application:

  • One application per activity must be submitted. Do not submit multiple activities in one application, students must be specific as to what you would like support for.
  • You will be asked to provide as much information about self-sourced activities as possible. This will include: links to website information, a cost breakdown and writing a statement as to how the activity is supporting your professional development.

Excluded Activities

There are some activities that cannot be supported as UniSQ has requirements to meet under this Australian Government Funding. 

Funding CANNOT be used to:

  • support attending Placements that are mandatory for your degree program.
  • finance your own personal business activities.
  • cover personal expenses while you undertake activities, for example: childcare, rent or mortgage.
  • pay for other people to attend the activity, for example, children or partners.

For student-sourced activities, please apply through the online application form at least 4 weeks prior to the start date of the activity: Ignition Bursary Application Form (usq.edu.au) .


Closing date

UniSQ-sourced activities advertised on Career Hub will specify the application deadline and any specific eligibility criteria. To filter activities with Ignition Bursary support, please click the “Industry Connections” category.

For student-sourced activities, students must apply at least 4 weeks prior to the start date of the activity to allow time for assessing and processing of your bursary.
