Overview
Funded by the Australian Wildlife Society (AWS), the Wildlife Ecology Science Research Scholarship is open to Higher Degree by Research students undertaking a research project with direct relevance to the conservation of Australian native wildlife - flora and fauna.
One candidate will be awarded the scholarship each year. The recipient will be awarded $5,000 in total, and will receive one payment of $2,500 each semester.
The Scholarship provides funds to support operational costs associated with the successful candidate's research project, such as:
Travel associated with the research project
Fieldwork expenses
Specialist software
Small items of equipment (ie less than $5,000)

Who is eligible?
To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must:
- have completed a Bachelor Degree with First Class Honours, or be regarded by the University as having an equivalent level of attainment*;
- be undertaking a higher degree by research (HDR) at the University in the year of the scholarship (Scholarships are not available to applicants whose enrolment into a postgraduate research program has not been accepted by the University)
- be enrolled as a full-time student
- be a domestic or an overseas student, as defined in the Higher Education Support Act 2003 (Cth)
- have completed a Stage One/Doctoral Assessment
- not have completed a degree at the same or higher level as the proposed candidature
- not have received the AWS Wildlife Ecology Science Research Scholarship previously
- be undertaking a research project that is of direct relevance to the conservation of Australian native wildlife, flora or fauna
*Where applicants do not hold a Bachelor Degree with First Class Honours, the University may determine that the applicant has demonstrated an equivalent level of academic attainment. In determining an equivalent level of academic attainment, the University may consider previous study, relevant work experience, research publications, referees' reports and other research experience.
Selection process
The scholarship is awarded in accordance with the eligibility requirements outlined above and on the basis of the following criteria:
- A research project proposal that is: (i) of direct relevance to the conservation of Australian native wildlife - fauna or flora, and (ii) of a suitably high academic standard
- Proposed use of the scholarship to support the research project
- Motivation to succeed in the course in which he/she is enrolled
- Demonstrated initiative in personal and professional life
- Academic merit in previous undergraduate study (including Honours)
