The Principal's Regional Starter Scholarship has been developed to encourage and support students who are attending a regional high school to commence an undergraduate degree at Curtin University.

Eligible West Australian high school principals can nominate two students for this scholarship.

Students can be nominated on any of the below criteria:

  • Academic merit; or
  • Showing improvement during their high school studies; or
  • Potential to achieve at university; or
  • Adverse personal circumstances

    • Science courses
    • Engineering courses
    • Western Australian School of Mines (WASM)

  • Undergraduate

  • Students from regional or remote areas
  • Year twelve students

  • Australian Citizen
  • Australian Permanent Resident
  • New Zealand Citizen
  • Permanent Humanitarian Visa

  • Merit Based

The Principal's Regional Starter Scholarship will provide the following support:

  • A one-off cash payment of $1,500. The amount can be used at the recipient’s discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses


Scholarship Details

All undergraduate degrees


High School Eligibility

  • WA high school classified as rural, regional or remote
  • Students completing ATAR in 2024
  • Listed on Curtin’s list of 2024 StepUp schools (list of eligible schools on the top right hand side of this page)

Nominee Eligibility

Nominees must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to be nominated for the Curtin Regional Starter's Scholarship:

  • Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, Australian permanent humanitarian or New Zealand citizen
  • Is a high-school leaver in 2024 at an eligible West Australian high school
  • Apply through TISC and have an eligible Curtin course as first preference by 1 December 2024
  • Receive an eligible course offer at Curtin for Semester 1, 2025 in main round course offers
  • Accept course offer by offer lapse date
  • Will be enrolling full-time

Note: Regional High Schools are also able to nominate students for the Principal's Recommendation Award


Application process

Step 1: Download

  • Nomination form is available to download from the right hand side of this page when the scholarship is open for application

Step 2: Complete

  • Approved nominator is to complete the nomination form
  • The nomination form is a writable PDF, so can be completed using a computer

Step 3: Submit

  • School must submit the nomination form to the Scholarships Office ([email protected] ) by the closing date

Step 4: Receipt

  • Nomination receipt will be sent to the nominator and Principal within 10 business days of Curtin receiving the nomination

Step 5: Assessment

  • Nominated students will be assessed for eligibility and if they receive and accept offer of a place into an undergraduate course at Curtin University in 2023
  • Up to two students per WA high school will be successful for this award if all criteria is met

Step 6: Outcome

  • Outcome will be sent via the email address listed through TISC after main round offers (all successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified)
  • Students cannot receive more than one offer of a scholarship if they are from the same funding source or for the same purpose.

Step 7: Acceptance

  • Successful applicants (including those who wish to defer their studies) must return acceptance documents by the deadline stipulated in the terms and conditions
  • Deferral of this scholarship is permitted for up to 12 months (details included in scholarship terms and conditions)

Please note:

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit
  • Scholarship is not transferable to another university


Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet all of the following:

  • Maintain an enrolment each study period at Curtin University
  • Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 50 each study period
