About this scholarship

The Wheatley Family Foundation Scholarship empowers students who are without family support, to flourish through their higher education journey by providing support through to graduation. The longer term goal; is to create a cohort of students, who are learning without family support, to see the benefit of higher education. It will also encourage those students to volunteer their time to mentor and empower the next Wheatley Family Foundation Scholarship recipients.

The Wheatley Family Foundation Scholarship will provide the following support for up to 4 years of support (based on a full-time study load of 100 credits per semester):

  • A total value of up to $44,000 paid as:
    • An initial cash stipend of $5,500 to be used to contribute towards educational related expenses.
    • Subsequent semesters: $4,000 will be allocated to the recipient’s course fees account and $1,500 paid to the recipient as a cash stipend to be used towards educational expenses

Any Bachelor course at Curtin University


Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered for the Wheatley Family Foundation Scholarship: 

  • Australian citizen, Permanent resident, Permanent Humanitarian visa, and New Zealand citizen
  • Must have a minimum enrolment of at least 50 credits at Curtin University in semester 1, 2024
  • Have a minimum course weighted average (CWA) of 65 or a minimum ATAR of 80
  • Must demonstrate passion to give back and willingness to help empower the next cohort of scholarship recipients or community.
  • Demonstrated financial hardship
  • Does not receive financial support from family


Application process

Step 1: Access application form

  • Application form can be accessed via the ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
  • Please note that this link will direct you to the general "Equity Scholarship Program " application form. Once you submit your application, you will then be considered for all scholarships that you are eligible for in this round
  • If you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student and would like to be considered for all other scholarships (both equity as well as merit scholarships) available in this round, we recommend that you apply for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program here (only one application form to complete)

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found under the Applying for scholarships link on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

  • Application receipt will be sent to the email address provided when you created your Curtin account, once your application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

  • Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
    • Responses to questions in application form
    • Financial hardship
    • Performance in interview (if required)
    • Preference given to rural/regional and/or Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students 

Step 6: Shortlist for Interview (Only applies if an interview is required)

  • Shortlisted applicants will be sent an interview date and time via their email address entered in TISC.
  • Shortlisted applicants must be available for the designated interview time
  • Interviews (if necessary) will be held 8-17 April 2024

Step 6: Outcome

  • All successful and unsuccessful applicants notified of their outcome via the Scholarships Channel (Student OASIS) within 6-8 weeks of the scholarship closing date

Step 7: Acceptance

  • Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline
  • Deferral is not permitted

Please note:

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient need and merit


Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet all of the following:

  • Maintain a minimum of 50 credits part-time enrolment per semester at Curtin University
  • Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 65 each study period
  • Pass all units attempted each study period
