About this scholarship

The Rowe Scientific Metallurgy Scholarship has been developed by Rowe Scientific Pty Ltd in conjunction with Curtin University to encourage and support students who have chosen to study metallurgy at Curtin University (Western Australian School of Mines).

Rowe Scientific Ply Ltd has been supplying the scientific community and laboratories around Australia since 1987. They wish to give back to the community through supporting technical people who are studying in areas that will support the industries that have supported Rowe Scientific, and therefore wish in this case to support students who major in Metallurgy.

The Rowe Scientific Metallurgy Scholarship will provide the following support for up to three years (based on full-time enrolment of 100 credits per semester):

  • A total value of $15,000 paid as a cash stipend of $2,500 per semester. The stipend may be used at the recipient's discretion to contribute towards education-related expenses such as textbooks and/or general living expenses


Scholarship Details

The scholarship is open to students:

Commencing their first year of studies in the following:

  • Bachelor of Science (Science) (Extractive Metallurgy)

Enrolled in their second year of studies in the following (completed 200 credits):

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Metallurgical Engineering) (Honours)

Double degrees with any of the above courses are considered and students must be commencing their third year of studies (completed 400 credits) to be eligible to apply


Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the Rowe Scientific Metallurgy Scholarship:

  • Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or New Zealand Citizen
  • Enrolled full-time (100 credits) in an eligible course and year level at Curtin University in semester 1, 2024
  • Have a minimum course weighted average (CWA) of 65
  • Not in receipt of any other scholarships that are externally funded and/or for the same purpose


Application process

Step 1: Access application form

  • Application form can be accessed via the ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
  • If you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student, if you would like to be considered for all other scholarships (both equity as well as merit scholarships) available in this round, we recommend that you apply for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program here (only one application form to complete)

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found on the ‘Applying for scholarships’ page on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page and within the Scholarships Channel on OASIS
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

  • Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

  • Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
    • Responses to questions in application form
    • Academic merit
    • In the event of a tie, preference will be given to students who are underprivileged and/or come from rural, regional or remote areas of Australia (assessed based on permanent address postcode)

Step 6: Outcome

  • All successful and unsuccessful applicants notified of their outcome via the Scholarships Channel (Student OASIS) within 6-8 weeks of the scholarship closing date

Step 7: Acceptance

  • Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline

Please note:

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit


Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet all of the following:

  • Remain enrolled in initial course of study
  • Maintain a full-time enrolment of 100 credits per semester at Curtin University
  • Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 65 each semester
  • Pass all units attempted each semester
  • Not apply for or receive any other scholarships that are externally funded and/or for the same purpose whilst receiving the Rowe Scientific Metallurgy Scholarship
