About this scholarship

Please note the Round 2 applications are open for students who are commencing their study in Study Block 1 in 2024. Students who applied in the Round 1 applications are not required to reapply.

Please note the closing date for the Round 2 application has been extended to 22 January 2024.

The Practical Legal Training Scholarship supports and encourages law graduates to pursue their practical legal training at Curtin University. The scholarship is for future and current students who enrol into the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at Curtin in 2024.

The scholarship will provide the following support:

  • A total value of up to $4,000 paid as a cash stipend of $2,000 across the first two study periods.

The amount can be used at the recipient's discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses.


Scholarship Details

Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice


Applicants must meet all of the following eligibility criteria to be considered for the Practical Legal Training Scholarship:

  • Completed or almost completed a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor at an Australian university.
  • Commencing the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice in the Study Block 1 in 2024 at Curtin University.
  • Willingness to participate in promotion and marketing of the Curtin Practical Legal Training.
  • Deferral is not permitted.


Application process

Step 1: Access online application form

  • Applications are to be submitted using the online application form. Access the form by clicking on the “Apply Online” button on the top right-hand side of this page

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found under the Applying for scholarships link on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

  • Application receipt will be sent to the email address provided when you created your Curtin account, once your application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

  • Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
    • Enrolment into an eligible degree at Curtin University in Study Block 1 in 2024 at Curtin University
    • Academic excellence
    • Two references
    • Responses to questions in application form

Step 6: Outcome

  • Outcome will be sent via the email address listed through your direct Curtin course application by late January 2024 (all successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified)

Step 7: Acceptance

  • Successful applicants must return acceptance documents by mid-February 2024
  • Deferral of this scholarship is not permitted

Please note:

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit
  • Scholarship will commence from first study period of study
  • Scholarship is not transferable to another university


Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet all of the following:

  • Remain enrolled in initial course of study
  • Maintain a minimum enrolment of 25 credits each study period in the course that they received the offer of the scholarship at Curtin University
  • Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 50 each study period
  • Pass all units attempted each study period
