About this scholarship

The Peter Collins Scholarship funded by Neometals was established to support final year Applied Geology students with preference given to students studying at the Kalgoorlie campus. 

Neometals is a sustainable battery materials producer. The Company has developed a suite of green battery materials processing technologies that reduce reliance on traditional mining and processing and support circular economic principles.

The Peter Collins Scholarship will provide the following support for up to one year (based on a full-time enrolment of 100 credits per semester):

  • A total value of $15,000 paid as a cash stipend of $7,500 per semester. The amount can be used at the recipient's discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses

  • Bachelor of Science (Applied Geology)
  • Bachelor of Applied Geology 

Double degrees with the above course will be considered


Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the Peter Collins Scholarship:

  • Australian or New Zealand Citizen or the holder of an Australian Permanent Resident or Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa
  • Enrolled full-time (minimum 75 credits) in the third year of the Bachelor of Science (Applied Geology) or Bachelor of Applied Geology in semester 1, 2024
    • Double degree applicants must be in their final year (fourth year) to be considered eligible
  • Have a minimum course weighted average (CWA) of 65
  • Not in receipt of any other scholarships that are externally funded and/or for the same purpose


Application process

Step 1: Access application form

  • Application form can be accessed via the ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
  • If you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student and would like to be considered for all other scholarships (both equity as well as merit scholarships) available in this round, we recommend that you apply for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program here (only one application form to complete)

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found on the ‘Applying for scholarships’ page on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page and within the Scholarships Channel on OASIS
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

  • Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

  • Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
    • Responses to questions in application form
    • Academic merit
    • Demonstration of active citizenship in the Curtin or Kalgoorlie community, or their program of study
    • Preference will be given to students studying at the Kalgoorlie campus

Step 6: Outcome

  • All successful and unsuccessful applicants notified of their outcome via the Scholarships Channel (Student OASIS) within 6-8 weeks of the scholarship closing date

Step 7: Acceptance

  • Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline

Please note:

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit


Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet all of the following:

  • Remain enrolled in initial course of study
  • Maintain a full-time enrolment of at least 75 credits per semester at Curtin University
  • Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 65 each semester
  • Pass all units attempted each semester
  • Not apply for or receive any other scholarships that are externally funded and/or for the same purpose whilst receiving the Peter Collins Scholarship
