About this scholarship
Description/Applicant information

This Scholarship aims to support and encourage students who are passionate about the field of mine surveying.  
AIMS provides professional representation to government, industry, and educational organisations on mine surveying issues throughout Australia. For over 40 years, AIMS has actively supported qualified mine surveyors, represented the industry, and advocated for change. The organisation assists its members in maintaining their competency through regular Continuing Professional Development events, including seminars, webinars, interactive days, and other educational activities. Furthermore, AIMS plays a significant role in mentoring the next generation of mine surveyors.

The Australian Institute of Mine Surveyors (AIMS) Scholarship will provide the following support for the expected remaining duration of the undergraduate degree (based on a full-time enrolment of 100 credits):

• A total value of up to $15,000 paid as a cash stipend of $2,500 per semester. The amount can be used at the recipient's discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses
• Affiliate membership with AIMS (until the Scholarship tenure is complete)
• Volunteer mentorship opportunities with an AIMS Member

• Bachelor of Mine and Engineering Surveying

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the Australian Institute of Mine Surveyors (AIMS) Scholarship:

• Australian or New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident, or Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa holder
• Enrolled full-time or part-time (minimum 50 credits) in any year level of the Bachelor of Mine and Engineering Surveying in semester 1, 2024
• Have a minimum course weighted average (CWA) of 60
• Not in receipt of any other scholarships that are externally funded and/or for the same purpose

Application process

Step 1: Access application form

• Application form can be accessed via the ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
• If you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student and would like to be considered for this scholarship (as well as all equity and merit scholarships), we recommend that you apply for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program here (only one application form to complete)

Step 2: Complete

• Complete the application form online
• Application form can be saved at any point of the process
• Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time

Step 3: Submit

• Closing date is listed at the top of the page and within the Scholarships Channel on OASIS
• Incomplete applications will not be assessed
• Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

• Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

• Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
  • Responses to questions in application form
  • Academic merit
  • Interview performance (for shortlisted applicants)
  • Preference will be given to students enrolled full-time

Step 6: Shortlist for Interview

• Shortlisted applicants will be sent an interview date and time via their student email in late March to early April
• Shortlisted applicants must be available for the designated interview time (early to mid-April)
• Unsuccessful applicants will be sent a notification via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS)

Step 7: Outcome

• Successful and unsuccessful interview applicants will be notified of their outcome via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) within 6-8 weeks of closing date

Step 8: Acceptance

• Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline

Please note:

• Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit

Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet all of the following:

• Remain enrolled in initial course of study
• Maintain a full-time or part-time enrolment of at least 50 credits per semester at Curtin University
• Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 60 each semester
• Pass all units attempted each semester
• Not apply for or receive any other scholarships that are externally funded and/or for the same purpose whilst receiving the Australian Institute of Mine Surveyors (AIMS) Scholarship
