Description of Work
The William H. Thompson (WHT) Faculty Coordinator reports to the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Undergraduate Education and works in collaboration with the WHT Director to provide strategic direction and oversight for the learning community’s two-year curriculum, support instructors who teach within the community, and participate in academic events which engage WHT students.
Administrative responsibilities entail the following:
  • Establish a two-year WHT curriculum appropriate for students within every college to support their degree completion.
  • Work with Department Chairs and Vice Chairs to develop and update MOUs that establish and reserve courses at appropriate times and ensure quality instruction.
  • Work with the University Registrar and New Student Enrollment to ensure a smooth enrollment process.
  • Assist in monitoring enrollments to ensure all students are meeting courses and program requirements.
  • Establish a budget for courses, faculty development, and extend the classroom programs;
  • Provide faculty with ongoing support, including orientations, faculty materials and the Canvas instructor course, midterm grade reporting, and resource referrals to support WHT scholars’ success.
  • Work with instructors, department chairs, and vice chairs to elevate and address concerns.
  • Serve as liaison between instructors and WHT staff to address student issues.
  • Assess faculty experience within the WHT learning community (e.g. debriefing sessions, surveys, etc.).
  • Work with other university units to support scholars’ needs as needed (e.g. Advising Coordinating Board, New Student Enrollment, First Year Experience, Honors, Student Advocacy, Center for Academic Success and Transition, etc.).
  • Interface with Buffett Foundation, assessment research teams, and UNO and UNK corollaries as appropriate and attend annual research meetings.
  • Participate in meetings of the Student Success Team led by the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Undergraduate Education.
  • Attend WHT student events that celebrate academic achievement (GPA dinner, graduation receptions, etc.).
  • Teach at least one WHT course each fall and spring semester.

Expected 1.0 FTE appointment as .49 Faculty Coordinator (administration) and .51 Faculty Appointment (teaching/research/service).
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Candidates must possess an earned terminal degree appropriate to their discipline and hold a current underlying faculty appointment at UNL.
  • Candidates must have experience teaching undergraduate courses and supporting student success for at-promise students at UNL.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, interact, and partner effectively, decisively, and transparently with academic leadership, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders important to the university.
  • Evidence of creativity and innovation in pedagogy to develop, nurture, and enhance increasingly rigorous and superior-quality academic courses in relation to the William H. Thompson scholars program.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Academic administrative experience as undergraduate curriculum chair or undergraduate program coordinator or supporting a learning community.
