Web Developer III supporting Human Resources (SOME IN OFFICE - Mostly Remote)

UTHealth Houston is looking for a Web Developer III to work with our Human Resources department on a variety of websites and projects.  This employee interfaces with unit administrators, content experts, technical staff, and publishers to assist in the development and online distribution of Web materials. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, support, and overall management of the Human Resources website.  This includes keeping content up to date and continuously working to improve our web presence. The focus will be designing interfaces, and you will have programming support from our web services team and vendors.  Ideally, this person will have enough know-how to update information on the page for content purposes, but you will not be backend coding or anything related to that.  

 

The Web Developer III will also work on entirely new projects from time to time.  They will create new designs and work with the interfaces for new applications being deployed by the human resources department.  You should also be familiar with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and site analytics and be able to develop strategies to increase website traffic and visibility.  

 

Some key responsibilities will include: 

  • Developing creative and visually appealing web designs, including layout, graphics, and user interfaces.
  • Collaborating with team members and stakeholders to understand design requirements and translate them into user-centric web solutions.
  • Ensure web designs, websites and web applications are responsive and provide an excellent user experience across various devices and browsers.
  • Manage and update website content, ensuring it remains current, relevant, and aligned with UTHealth Houston’s branding and messaging.
  • Conduct thorough testing to identify and resolve bugs and usability issues, ensuring a smooth and error-free user experience.
  • Implement best practices for on-page SEO, optimizing content, meta tags, and other elements to improve search engine rankings and visibility.
  • Coordinates assigned projects and leads the work of others assigned to the projects

This is a full-time position that will largely be remote.  From time to time, you will need to come in for departmental or team meetings, but these are quarterly and infrequent.  The home office will be in the heart of the Texas Medical Center at our University Center Tower.  This is a salaried role that is classified as non-exempt.  It is eligible for all UTHealth Houston benefits.

Position Summary:

Interfaces with unit administrators, content experts, technical staff, and publishers to assist in the development and online distribution of Web materials. Creates, designs, and produces Web content.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1.  Provide management of Web site content to include creation, addition, and removal of information from the Web site.
2. Plan site design with an emphasis on Web usability.
3.  Develops and maintains Web application interfaces or programs in at least one object oriented programming language.
4.  Creates dynamic Web pages.
5.  Develops Web site(s) information architecture.
6.  Uses advanced photo editing skills for the creation of graphics, animated graphics, and retouching images.
7.  Creates and captions audio or video files for distribution on Web sites.
8.  Creates and maintains databases.  Adding, deleting, and changing database records as required.
9.  Keeps current on overall Web publishing technologies available for creating and distributing Web-based materials.
10.  Conducts usability testing.
11. Contribute to the university’s usability standards.
12.  Determines where files are placed on a Web site and authorizes access rights to appropriate individuals.
13.  Conducts cross-browser functionality testing.
14. Develop an annual program or departmental budget for Web.
15.  Contributes to university Web guidelines through interaction with other leaders in Web development.
16. Develop program or departmental strategic goals for the Web site(s); may contribute to university Web development strategic goals through interaction with other leaders in Web development.
17.  Promotes the program or department through the departmental Web site(s).
18.  May supervise others.
19.  Other duties as assigned.

 


Certification/Skills:

* HTML, Graphic creation, Graphic software, Digital Equipment/Scanners, Cascading Style Sheet (CSS), META data, Web editing software, audio/visual software.
* Advanced understanding of accessibility and usability concepts, information architecture, Web page design, database concepts, browser/platform-specific functionality, security issues and a basic understanding of Web standards.
* Coding dynamic Web pages:  Active Server Pages (ASP) or Java Server Pages (JSP) or Coldfusion (CFM).
* Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Content Management System (CMS).
* Scripting languages: jscript or vbscript or perl, etc.
* Prefer A+ Certification and/or Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) certification.
* Understanding of project management skills, budgeting concepts, performance management and strategic planning abilities.

 

Minimum Education:

Bachelors’ degree in computer science, human factors or relevant work experience in lieu of education.

Minimum Experience:

Three years of Web development

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount to constantly to move objects.
