Job Description
SUMMARY:
This full-time tenure track position will be a key member of the Cuyamaca College Center for Water Studies team. The Center for Water Studies mission is to recruit and train the next generation of waterworks industry professionals. As the earliest and most comprehensive Career Technical program of its kind, Cuyamaca College's Center for Water Studies provides innovative and up to date hands-on instruction that continually meets the water industry's needs for well-rounded employees. As such, it is regarded as one of the top programs of its type not only within the California Community College system but the entire western US.
The Center currently offers 28 courses that lead to Certificates of Achievement and/or A.S. degrees in 7 Areas of Specialization. The person hired to fill this position will be joining a teaching corps with one full-time instructor/Program Coordinator and 9 adjunct instructors with over 350 years of combined working experience in the waterworks industry.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Regular/contract instructors participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, courses and other experiences that will directly result in the educational growth of the students and support advancement of the visions, missions and values of the college and District. This position may include a combination of day and evening assignments, large lectures and small seminars, and is being offered by a college strongly committed to the 'open door' concept serving a diverse student population. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: APPLICANTS MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA
Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Public Administration, or closely related field and two years of professional experience in the water/wastewater industry, public works industry or closely related field;
OR
Associate's Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Public Administration, Water/Wastewater Technology, or related field and six years of professional experience in the water/wastewater industry, public works industry or related field;
OR
The equivalent.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS - Applicants must demonstrate
Teaching and Professional Qualifications:

  • Full-time work experience at the field operations level at a water or wastewater agency, the public works industry or a closely related field.
  • Ability to teach a wide variety of courses offered in the current Center for Water Studies Program, with a strong emphasis in wastewater technologies. CWS Course Descriptions
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to remain current within the water works community.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner.
  • Sensitivity to, understanding of, and ability to motivate students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, differing abilities, gender, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Ability to provide a learning environment that promotes equitable student outcomes.

Leadership Qualifications:
  • Evidence of the ability to provide leadership for the Center for Water Studies Program to meet the challenges in the program over the next decade.
  • Evidence of a desire to make a commitment to and participate in departmental and campus activities such as: industry/trade associations, fund raising activities, outreach, and departmental clubs and organizations.

Other Teaching and Professional Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching a wide variety of water and wastewater treatment, distribution, and collection courses in the water/wastewater industry, the public works industry or a closely related field.
  • Possession of a State Water Resources Control Board Treatment, Distribution, or Wastewater Certification is highly desirable.
  • Ability or commitment to:
    • Develop curriculum
    • Lead a team of part time instructors
    • Utilize technology in the classroom and in department activities

Other Leadership Qualifications:
  • Ability or commitment to:
    • Provide direction to classified staff and student interns in their work assignments within the department and field site.
    • Recruit adjunct faculty and students
    • Assist with staffing and scheduling
    • Assist in scheduling, equipment and supply purchasing
    • Establish and maintain industry partnerships
    • Program management including budget development and administration
