This position will manage, execute, provide functional expertise and training on water, wastewater and steam chemistry, environmental and chemical safety policies and training programs at the University’s two central utility plants and multiple stand-alone facilities including cooling towers, thermal energy storage tanks, renewal energy systems, and other campus facilities.
This includes developing and proposing program-wide operational and equipment plans, managing day-to-day plant water chemistry testing and treatment programs, functional supervision of staff associated with these programs, ensuring plant-wide compliance with all applicable safety protocols, and the acquisition and management of contracted services and supplies and equipment with these activities.
Must be available by telephone to address work related issues and may be required to perform work in addition to and outside of the normal scheduled shift 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This may include emergency situations, coverage of shifts, or other operational needs, either on short notice or with advance notice.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science or other related technical discipline plus two (2) years of work experience in one or more of the following: institutional environment, power plant, large industrial production facility, marine engineer (2AE or higher), navy steam propulsion, plant chemist. Equivalent education/experience considered. Experience in water treatment testing techniques, analysis, diagnostics, and successful remediation including the operations of water treatment equipment such as demineralizers, softeners, polishers, iron filters, RO systems, chemical pumps, etc. necessary. Must have knowledge of mechanical equipment and systems associated with central heating/cooling plants. Must have ability to communicate effectively and apply the theoretical principles of chemistry and water treatment. Must be proficient at computer software and programs. Must be familiar with general safety and hazardous material management practices for industrial water treatment chemicals. Must have ability to develop and manage financial budget for chemistry and vendor contracts.
Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirement. (this differs but is the newest approved statement)
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science or other related technical discipline preferred. Plus five (5) years of experience in one or more of the following: institutional environment, power plant, large industrial production facility, marine engineer (2AE or higher), navy steam propulsion, plant chemist helpful.
