Position Summary
Set-up, monitor, service and empty exterior solid waste/trash and recycling containers on campus to provide a clean, safe, healthy environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors.
Conditions of Employment
  • This position generally works Sunday – Thursday, 7:00AM-4:00PM although flexibility in scheduling is required.
  • This position works a non-traditional schedule including mandatory overtime. Flexibility in scheduling and availability to accommodate special events, emergencies, and/or unscheduled work assignments, which typically include working evenings, weekends and/or holidays, is required.
  • This position is required to sit (while driving), stand for extended periods of time, walk, climb stairs, bend and twist from the waist and knees (while emptying cans, roll carts and containers), reach with hands and arms, pushing and pulling, and stoop, kneel, and crouch. Must frequently lift and/or move 40-60 pounds.
  • This position works outside year-round in all weather conditions, including temperatures below 32 degrees and above 90 degrees, and during inclement weather.
  • This position has been designated as essential to the operation of the department, will require reporting to work when the University is officially closed, and is subject to overtime.
  • This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may require overtime including scheduled and unscheduled, nights and weekends, and or holidays.

Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and effectively communicate with others and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills. Must be able to respond to, create, and send emails.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
  • Valid Driver’s license and two years of driving experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Products (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.)
  • Ability to use hand tools for light maintenance.
  • Previous waste and/or recycling experience.
  • Knowledge of using the proper techniques to lift heavy or bulky items.
