Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years.  It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force.  TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions.  The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
Organizational Objective:
To creatively access and meet the warehousing and postal needs of Tidewater Community College. To actively support the college’s vision by providing our customers with comprehensive and quality warehousing services. To support improvement in the receiving, stowage, and distribution process and to insure timely and economical receipt, stowage, distribution, and disposal of materials and equipment in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position also provides mailroom and mail courier support as needed.
Purpose of Position:
The primary duties and responsibilities of this position is to deliver supplies and equipment to various college, assist with receiving and processing of incoming shipments into the District Warehouse. This includes but is not limited to physically receiving shipments, unpacking and verifying carton contents against packing slip or invoice, reporting shortages and damaged shipments, documenting receipts of purchase orders in eVA, routing cartons to end user destinations, and keeping complete paper records of shipments. To assist in delivery inventory of fixed assets from the warehouse to all campus locations. Additionally this position may assist with mail courier and mailroom activities as needed. Driving college owned vehicles to deliver equipment or supplies as needed or to conduct mail runs is required. Conducts all activities in compliance with workplace safety and health standards.
TCC’s warehouse is located at the college’s Suffolk site off I-664 and College Drive.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated proficiency skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and database software
  • Demonstrated ability to research, prioritize, utilize available resources, and resolve issues with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to be organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing, and electronically, with college community, vendors, and co-workers
  • Ability to operate postage equipment
  • Working knowledge of receiving modules
  • Advanced working knowledge of warehousing, which includes receiving, inspecting, storing, and issuing equipment and supplies, and materials
  • Previous experience with stretch-wrap equipment, and all material handling equipment
  • Ability to drive College-Owned vehicles in order to make deliveries.
  • Ability to lift: mail, packages, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50lbs
  • Valid Driver’s License
