The Department of Linguistics at Cornell University invites applications for a one-year visiting lectureship in Linguistics. The lecturer will teach three courses per semester that will include Introduction to Linguistics (in both the fall and spring semesters), Introduction to Historical Linguistics (in the spring), and Language and Society (in the fall).  The two remaining undergraduate courses will be determined on the basis of the Department’s needs and the candidate’s expertise.

Requirements include a Ph.D. in Linguistics in hand prior to the start of the appointment, a strong background in historical linguistics, and demonstrated excellence in teaching.

Pay range: $11,750 per course. 

Actual salary offers in the College of Arts and Sciences will be based on education, experience, discipline, and relevant skills.

  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
  • Unique applicable skills.
