Position Summary

The Family and Child Studies Program in the College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a full-time, 9-month appointment Visiting Lecturer II or III position in the Family and Child Studies Program beginning in the fall semester of the 2024-2025 academic year.

The Family and Child Studies Program has 3 undergraduate concentrations including Human Development and Family Relations (HDFR), Early Childhood Education and Development (ECED) and Early Childhood Multicultural Education Licensure Pre-K to Grade 3. The Lecturer will teach undergraduate courses in the UNM Family and Child Studies Program.

UNM is the state’s flagship research university as well as a Hispanic-serving institution classified as a Carnegie Research University with Highest Research Activity. UNM also has strong connections with 23 tribal nations located within New Mexico. As such, successful candidates must be committed to working with broadly diverse student and community populations.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in the Family and Child Studies. Some of the courses may include Emergent Literacy: Birth through Pre-K, Young Children and Diverse Abilities, Teaching and Learning Reading and Writing, Teaching and Learning Math and Science, Teaching and Learning Practicum, Student Teaching Seminar.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in a related field (e.g., Early Childhood Education) by start date, August 2024.
  • Record of higher education teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year experience teaching early childhood or related area at the college or university undergraduate level
  • Ability to teach undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses in early childhood, including courses focused on pedagogy and curriculum development
  • Experience working with students of diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience teaching hybrid and online courses.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
