The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Wagner College invites applications for a three-year visiting assistant professor in Environmental Studies to begin fall 2024. We seek an environmental anthropologist or human geographer with a political ecology and/or an environmental justice focus, and experience using AcrGIS Pro and/or other GIS software. Candidates with broad, anthropological or interdisciplinary training, applied or community engagement experience, and an interdisciplinary research agenda that will include undergraduate students are strongly preferred. Applicants must have teaching experience and be near to completion of their PhD at the time of the appointment.

The teaching load is 3/3 with the option for summer courses. Courses to be covered include: Cultural Geography (AN106), Comparative Cultures (AN201), People and the Environment (AN206) and Introduction to Digital Spatial Technology (AN306), with the option for teaching/creating additional courses in the candidate's area of teaching and research interest. In addition, the successful candidate will teach in Wagner College's interdisciplinary, signature, First Year Program. Wagner courses are small (generally less than 30 students), which allows faculty to build close relationships with students. And our location and mission offer many opportunities for faculty to develop robust agendas of research and experiential learning that includes students.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $65,000.
