The Department of Computer Science and Information Systems (CSIS) resides in the Mike Cottrell College of Business (MCCB) and offers undergraduate programs in computer science (CS), information systems (IS), and cybersecurity. CS is ABET accredited. IS has AACSB accreditation, as do the other business programs in the college. The MCCB is home to the UNG Institute for Cyber Operations, Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and the Truist Center for Ethical Leadership. MCCB graduate programs include the Cottrell MBA, Master of Accountancy, MS in Computer Science, and three graduate certificates, one of which is in cybersecurity. The department also offers a number of minors in computer science.

The MCCB international group of teacher-scholars provides an exceptional learning community to prepare students for their professional roles and to engage with business and industry in the region to foster economic development. The MCCB is the largest college at UNG and enrolls over 4,800 students. The college moved into its new building, the Cottrell Center for Business, Technology & Innovation located on the Dahlonega campus, in fall 2022. The facility fosters a state-of-the-art learning environment with specialized spaces for computer science, including a cyber range, forensics/cyber lab, and hardware/networking lab.

UNG is designated by the NSA and DHS as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CDE). Through support of a multi-million dollar grant from the DoD, the cybersecurity program has a strong focus on preparing future cyber workforce for the military, government, and defense contractors.  

The Department of Computer Science and Information Systems in the Mike Cottrell College of Business (MCCB) invites applicants for a full-time, Visiting Assistant Professor in Cybersecurity OR Visiting Lecturer in Cybersecurity starting summer 2024. The appointment is expected to be renewable. The successful candidate will teach cybersecurity and computer science courses such as computer security, computer forensics, network security, database security, Linux operating system, and reverse engineering. Relevant credentials and experience in cybersecurity is strongly preferred. Quality teaching and student engagement are high priorities in the MCCB. 

  • Teach four undergraduate and/or graduate cybersecurity related courses per semester.
  • Use innovative teaching and learning techniques to provide high quality learning experiences in and out of the classroom.
  • Engage with the university's military connections and the emerging technology industry populating the north Georgia and Atlanta regions.
  • Work with student projects, internships, and competitions.
  • Support the culture of the department, MCCB, UNG, and its service community. 
  • A doctorate in computer science or a related field. ABD may be considered with evidence that the degree is nearing completion. 
  • Candidates with a master's degree in computer science and a strong record of industry experience in the cybersecurity field are encouraged to apply for consideration as a visiting lecturer.
  • Position is part of a DoD funded grant which requires the selected candidate to have a U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residence status in the U.S.
  • Evidence of superior teaching abilities strongly preferred.
  • Professional experience or certifications in specialized areas of cybersecurity is preferred.
