Position Summary
The Department of Earth and Oceanographic Science at Bowdoin College invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible, visiting assistant professor position for the 2024-2025 academic year. The appointment is for one year and begins July 1, 2024. A PhD is expected by the time of appointment.
Teaching responsibilities will emphasize courses in biogeochemistry and surface earth processes. The selected applicant will teach four courses: two courses with weekly laboratories and two seminars with no weekly lab. The fall-semester laboratory-based course will be biogeochemistry; other course topics might include groundwater and aquifers, soils, climate and atmospheric science, sedimentary systems, critical zone processes, natural hazards, or natural resources. The College’s location along the rocky Maine coast provides excellent local field locations for teaching and research. Department facilities include stream tables, trace gas analyzer, gas chromatograph, HPLC, nutrient analyzer, titrator, dissolved inorganic carbon analyzer, YSI, waders, access to a boat fleet at the Schiller Coastal Studies Center, and SEM with CL/EDS/EBSD capabilities.
