Description: The Department of History at Claremont McKenna College (CMC) invites applications for a one-year visiting Assistant Professorship in African History, to begin on July 1, 2024.

The successful candidate is expected to hold a Ph.D. by the time of the appointment and to teach five courses over the academic year (two the first semester, three the second). We seek candidates with demonstrated commitment to teaching, mentoring, and inspiring students representing a broad range of socioeconomic backgrounds, political opinions, genders, races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, and religions. The salary range for the position will be $68-75K.

Claremont McKenna College is a highly selective undergraduate institution ranked among the top liberal arts colleges nationally. Procedures
and Timetable: Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a cover letter that includes a teaching statement that addresses the candidate’s ability to teach, mentor, and inspire students representing a broad range of backgrounds.

The department also requests evidence of teaching effectiveness, a sample syllabus for one course and brief descriptions of one or two more proposed courses, and a short research sample (up to 25 pages).
