Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Violence Prevention and Advocacy Services department provides support and advocacy services to individuals affected by gender-based violence and strives to prevent all forms of gender-based violence on campus. This department works collaboratively with partners on campus to address the comprehensive needs of survivors of violence and address its root causes.
Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
Housed within Violence Prevention and Advocacy Services (VPAS), the Violence Prevention Coordinator (VPC) designs, coordinates, and delivers violence prevention programming across campus utilizing multidisciplinary and cross-departmental collaborative efforts to reach undergraduate, graduated/professional, and post-doctoral students. As part of a cohesive departmental prevention strategy, the VPC develops and implements messaging, assessment, education, training, and direct services related to prevention of interpersonal violence, including as sexual and gender-based harassment, sexual violence, dating and domestic violence, stalking, and hazing to the UNC-Chapel Hill campus. This position will employ evidence-based and best practice prevention strategies, such as promoting affirmative consent; bystander intervention; development of healthy, respectful relationships; and effective interpersonal communication skills. The VPC will also address other violence prevention issues determined through regular needs assessments, literature reviews, and evaluation of emerging and best practices in the field. This position will also perform environmental and outcome assessments and maintain and compile data relevant to campus compliance with federal regulations and work in collaboration with other staff in VPAS including the Gender Violence Services Coordinators, and other campus and community partners including but not limited to the Equal Opportunity Compliance Office, campus safety, and student affairs.
The position reports to the Executive Director of Student Wellbeing and Violence Prevention/Senior Prevention Strategy Officer and works closely and collaboratively with colleagues throughout Student Affairs and the broader University. The VPC supervises paraprofessional (graduate-level) program assistants and undergraduate peer educators. The individual in this position will work closely with other campus health promotion professionals to develop and implement a holistic strategic plan supporting the health and wellness of Carolina students. All staff provide service to the department and campus community through training and participation in committees and support of Division activities.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Knowledge of best practice theories and strategies regarding violence prevention and related behaviors/risk reduction strategies;
- Experience presenting and facilitating educational programming.
- Excellent oral, written, and high level organizational skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple complex job duties and project-based work.
- Demonstrated effectiveness working with a diverse, college-age community and providing services from a non-judgmental perspective.
- Understanding and capacity to articulate prevention education from a perspective that includes the intersections of gender, race, sexual orientation and other significant aspects of individual and cultural identity. 
- Familiarity with legislation and regulations related to violence prevention and student support including ADA, FERPA, HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability), and other applicable state, federal, and university guidelines.
- Familiarity with legislation related to sexual harassment and violence, including knowledge of Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, the federal Violence Against Women Act, Campus SaVE, the Clery Act, etc. and their application to campus environments. 
- Computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Two (2) or more years of experience of facilitating education and training programs. 
- Knowledge of student health promotion and related primary prevention strategies.
- Knowledge of current/emerging college health issues, intervention methods, health behavior change theories, ecological framework, and evidence-based practices.
- Previous experience working on a college campus or with college-age populations.
