Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
Fairmont State University, a four-year, public, comprehensive university located in Fairmont, West Virginia seeks a strategic, dynamic, and student-centric administrative professional to serve as its inaugural Vice President of Student Affairs.
Reporting to the University President and serving as a member of cabinet, the Vice President of Student Affairs (VPSA) functions as the senior officer and supervises the directors of the units within the Division of Student Affairs: Housing and Student Conduct; Student Health and Wellness; Accessibility Services; Campus Recreation; Student Engagement; the ENCOVA Career Development Center and Veteran’s Services.
The ideal candidate will bring significant leadership experience within student affairs: a demonstrated ability to identify and execute on opportunities to improve the student experience, including fostering and advancing inclusion and belonging; a record of collaborating effectively with campus stakeholders in the service of creating better outcomes for students; capacity to manage organizational change; dedication to student success and fostering a student-centered culture; and the ability to engage others in developing and implementing a vision for student affairs.
Minimum Required Education
Master’s degree or other advanced degree is required.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of seven years (7) related experience in student affairs including student engagement, residence life, student wellness and/or post-career outcomes.
  • A big-picture forward-thinker who will effectively communicate and facilitate access to resources, support, and other opportunities for students via the student affairs division; anticipate potential issues; and successfully maintain strong individual relationships with campus stakeholders.
  • The proven ability to lead and manage a team of skilled professionals effectively and to work collaboratively as a member of the President’s senior staff.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, decision-making, leadership, management, and supervisory skills, including the ability to work effectively with leaders of other teams.
  • Expertise with data informed decision-making.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in student affairs, student engagement, residential student management and student wellness.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral degree is preferred.
