The Department of Radiology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine seeks a Vice Chair of Education (VCE) for the Department. This individual will lead the educational mission of this large and dynamic Department of Radiology. The Department provides innovative educational opportunities across the spectrum of medical education from medical students through residents, fellows, faculty and continuing medical education. Faculty in the Department of Radiology teach courses throughout the four years of the undergraduate medical curriculum (UME), serving more than 700 medical students. The radiology residency program includes Diagnostic Radiology, Early Specialization in Interventional Radiology (ESIR), and Interventional Radiology (Integrated and Independent). The residency program is designed to produce future radiologists, subspecialists, and physician-scientists who will become leaders in their fields. An emphasis is placed on individualized rotations, research, and curricular content according to specific career goals of each of our approximately 50 trainees.  Fellowship training programs in all subspecialities are highly ranked destinations for trainees from across the country. The Department of Radiology also supports subspecialty fellows to develop skills as medical educators and has developed a scholar’s program for faculty who are primarily focused on medical education. The Department of Radiology educational programs are based at four core clinical sites: University of Colorado Hospital, Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Denver Health Medical Center (the safety-net county hospital), and Children’s Hospital Colorado.

This position is at least a 0.30 FTE and reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Radiology.  The VCE will oversee the work of radiology education coordinator staff, clerkship directors, the residency program directors, associate program directors and fellowship director

Administrative support will be provided for the role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The VCE will continually define and refine the educational mission of the Department of Radiology, exercising regular oversight and authority over all educational programs.
  • Work with the chair of the Department of Radiology on all matters that interact with education throughout the department.
  • After sufficient time to realize all Department of Radiology educational missions and defined pathways for success, the VCE shall be given budgetary control for education for the department.
  • Have oversight for all primary educational programs in the Department of Radiology including UME and GME at both residency and fellowship levels. This includes support and guidance for all education leaders within the Department of Radiology, and the VCE will support the Radiology Program Directors to provide oversight of Residency and Fellowship educational activities.
  • Have oversight of Innovative Education Programs in the department.
  • Have oversight of lifelong learning activities including CME and professional development in the Department of Radiology, with specific responsibility for Grand Rounds as the premier educational offering of the department.
  • Support the Vice Chair for Faculty Development for the Department of Radiology regarding professional development efforts for clinician educators.
  • Provide mentorship and faculty development for Clinician-Educators within the Department of Radiology.
  • Have coordinated oversight of all International Education Programs including Global Health.
  • Coordinate all of the efforts for the workforce pipeline within the Department of Radiology, including collaboration with the Vice Chair for Diversity and Inclusion to promote the Department of Radiology mission to enhance and increase diversity within the department across all training programs.
  • Will actively identify additional funding opportunities for education within the Department of Radiology.
  • Will meet with vice chairs from other departments as well as other educational and administrative leaders on campus including Associate Deans of CUSOM, to routinely identify best practices and additional opportunities for interprofessional interactions.

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire  

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Associate Professor or Professor, based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:  

Associate Professor  

  • Medical Degree or equivalent
  • Colorado Medical License at time of hire
  • Board certification in radiology
  • Mid-career associate or full professor rank 

Professor  

  • Medical Degree or equivalent
  • Colorado Medical License at time of hire
  • Board certification in radiology
  • Mid-career associate or full professor rank        

Preferred Qualifications (both ranks):  

  • A minimum of 5 years of UME or GME educational administrative experience with a proven track record of educational leadership and excellence in teaching
  • Ability to work independently
  • Flexibility in daily tasks

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE

Salaries are based on years of experience and are equal across all ranks. Rank will be determined during the interview process after discussion between you and the department about your previous experience.  

Associate Professor – $420,000 - $475,000

Professor - $420,000 - $475,000
