Job Summary

 

The Comparative Pathobiology department is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as a Veterinary Parasitology, Bacteriology, and Mycology Instructor! As an instructor, you will provide a critical service by developing and delivering classroom, project, and laboratory-based instruction to Veterinary Nursing and DVM students. You will also be responsible for developing and implementing policies, procedures, and standards for instruction delivery.

 

About Us

 

The Comparative Pathobiology (CPB) Department in the College of Veterinary Medicine is dedicated to understanding the cause and pathogenesis of animal diseases with the ultimate goal of applying this knowledge to increase food-animal productivity and improve the health of man and animals.

 

Our approximately 34 faculty, 50 graduate students, and 35 support staff are sensitive to the needs of society and the industries served by veterinary medicine. Departmental research, education, and diagnostic programs in the are periodically reviewed to meet and exceed expectations.  CPB faculty are committed to addressing complex problems that ultimately improve animal or human wellness and productivity.

 

The specific missions of the Department of Comparative Pathobiology are to:

  • Generate new knowledge through basic and applied research.
  • Educate students in professional and graduate programs about the concepts and principles of pathobiology, human-animal interaction, clinical epidemiology, and public health, including food safety concepts.
  • Develop, apply, and evaluate new technologies (e.g., diagnostics, therapeutics, vaccines, etc.) for improving health and productivity.
  • Provide diagnostic and epidemiologic investigational services to support the educational program.
  • Inform the public and food-animal producers about issues of animal and environmental health, animal welfare, and the veterinary profession.

Responsibilities and Duties

 

  • Deliver classroom instruction: You will lecture and provide laboratory instruction in the Veterinary Nursing Parasitology course. You will also provide direction for graduate teaching assistants in D.V.M. veterinary microbiology and parasitology courses for classroom instruction and demonstration.
  • Develop and maintain course materials: You will independently research and prepare electronic teaching materials as requested by the course instructors. This includes developing and maintaining experiments, ordering supplies and equipment, training lab personnel, and delivering course-learning materials.
  • Manage projects and processes: You will manage projects or processes, which are often difficult and complex. This may involve improving processes, systems, or products to enhance area performance.
  • Coach and review the work of less tenured professionals: You may be responsible for coaching and reviewing the work of less tenured professionals, thus requiring a broad knowledge of areas typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
  • Provide training for teaching assistants: You will be responsible for developing and providing training.
  • Maintain communication with internal and external parties: Communication with internal and external parties may involve influencing said groups at an operational level regarding policies, practices, and procedures.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or Veterinary Nursing/Technology.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Veterinary Parasitology, Bacteriology, and Mycology.
  • Two Years of Experience teaching in a higher education is strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
