The VandalStore is open 7 days a week. Some days have extended hours due to events.

Position Responsibilities


Position Summary
We are seeking great customer service representatives to work part time in the Moscow VandalStore.
This position must understand the importance of customer engagement and provide exceptional customer service. Uses knowledge of and skill in applying the principals of retail sales including pricing, stocking and ensuring customer satisfaction with merchandise; knowledge of the line of merchandise sold in the VandalStore; ability to learn and apply policies and procedures as they relate to the position; ability to apply the product knowledge gained to meet the customer’s needs; ability to keep accurate sale and inventory records; ability to process inter-departmental and student charges; ability to present a positive attitude about the products sold in the VandalStore; ability to communicate effectively; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to carry out store opening and closing procedures; ability to work safely.
**Seasonal, holiday and weekend availability are essential. This position is available through the school year, during university breaks and the summer.

Responsibilities


Job Duty Function Provide excellent customer service by:
Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Creating a friendly atmosphere by greeting customers and focusing on their positive experience throughout their visit. Engaging and assisting customers in the store.
  • Taking initiative to support store operations including operating equipment and cash register while ensuring speed of service and accurate transactions.
  • Always displaying a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work collegially with a diverse group of faculty, staff and students on a daily basis.
  • Utilizing suggestive selling techniques (up-selling, cross-selling).
  • Demonstrating product knowledge in all areas of the store.
  • Utilizing excellent phone skills (answering, orders, and problem solving).
  • Performing POS transactions and inventory system functions including:
    • Cashiering
    • Product search and availably
    • Performing Return/Exchange per policies set by management team
    • Working with web orders and merchandise inquiries
    • Performing discounting per policies set by management team

Job Duty Function Provide support in merchandising by:
Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Keeping the store looking fresh by shelving, arranging, cleaning, and organizing products or space within the store.
  • Consistently facing, filling, displaying, and organizing merchandise throughout the store.
  • Following merchandising plan from leadership team including creating displays, moving merchandise.
  • Assisting with receiving.
  • Ensuring product is priced for customer ease and sized as necessary.
  • Providing fulfillment – ability to pick and ship on-line orders.
  • Providing basic understanding of inventory and assisting in receiving and with transfers.

Job Duty Function Perform custodial and other work as assigned by:
Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Establishing, maintaining an organized, professional, and welcoming atmosphere of the sales floor, register area, outside common and back-end areas
  • Sweeping/Mopping/Vacuuming/Dusting/Cleaning;
  • Gathering and removing trash and recycling;
  • Cleaning restrooms, break room, office space, storage and receiving areas;
  • Performing seasonal work such as snow removal, outdoor table and chair maintenance.
  • Communicating the need to reorder supplies and retail goods to leadership.

  • Counting physical inventory.
  • Notifying buyers of mislabeled, defective, and damaged merchandise.

Position Qualifications


Required Qualifications
Demonstrated experience:
  • With basic math, keyboarding, and data entry skills.
  • Following detailed instructions.
  • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Communicating effectively in person and via the telephone.
  • Contributing to overall team success.
  • With problem solving.
  • Using a computer and current software.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and ability to meet the University of Idaho driving requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
Ability to:
  • Engage customers to deliver an elevated customer service/retail experience.
  • Learn quickly and work in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Be flexible with availability throughout the academic year including peak periods.
  • Be punctual and reliable.
  • Arrange displays in an attractive manner.

  • Prior retail/customer/food service experience.
  • Experience with cash handling.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Willingness and ability to:
  • Work evenings, weekends, and special events including home football game weekends and event weekends including UI Bound, JazzFest, commencement and the like.
  • Bend, stoop, lift, carry and/or otherwise move items weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
  • Stand and walk continuously throughout the shift.
