Position Summary
 The department is one of the medical research institutions working together as a national consortium to improve the way biomedical research is conducted across the country. The consortium, funded through our department, shares a common vision to reduce the time it takes for laboratory discoveries to become treatments for patients, and to engage communities in clinical research efforts.  The department provides outpatient clinical services to support a wide variety of research studies involving human subjects with an array of investigators representing the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Public Health, Nursing, and others.
Essential Job Duties:  The RN will provide nursing services with a focus on the care of participants who volunteer for clinical research studies conducted primarily in an ambulatory setting. The RN will provide specialized, professional nursing care to research subjects for healthy volunteers and to those with unusual and distinctive medical problems according to federal regulations, Good Clinical Practice, and local and institutional policies. The RN will provide management of clinical and research support activities in order to assure patient safety, address clinical needs, and assure protocol integrity and accurate data collection. 
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • Must be flexible, collaborative and willingness to assist others when needed
  • Ability to work independently and as well as part of a team; exhibits strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have significant attention to detail and the ability to successfully balance multiple competing priorities
  • Must be able to work with a variety of people in a professional, effective, diplomatic manner and maintain effective communications with patients, health care personnel, staff, and others
  • Visual attention and mental concentration with or without accommodation is required at all times in this capacity due to the clinical nature of the work
  • Ability to remain in front of a computer for extended periods of time, ability to bend to perform duties standard in providing health care and the ability to move 35 pounds with or without accommodation.

The individual assuming this position must possess current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing with no restrictions or pending actions.
Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR) certification required

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • At least two years of current clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting, urgent care, ambulatory setting or physician’s office
  • Proficient in phlebotomy and/or IV insertion
  • At least 6 months experience working at UNC Hospitals, UNC Hillsborough or a UNCPN medical clinic
  • Experience with Epic
  • Experience working with human subjects research
  • Experience working with pediatric patients in a clinical setting
