Summary of Position | Position Description ECLIPSe Coaches lead 16-person student groups once a week in communication, group process and healthy decision making through experiential team building & hands-on activities. We call these activities ECLIPSe challenges (Exercises in Collaborative Learning and Innovative Problem Solving). This is a part time position that requires coming to UNH one evening a week to coach two sessions (plus dinner prior from 4:30-5:00) from 5:30-6:45 & 7:00-8:15; 6/25, 7/2, 7/9, 7/16, 7/23, and 7/30. Ideal candidates will have experience or degree in Education, Outdoor Education, Counseling, School Counseling or Social Work, or experience working in Experiential Education or Residence Halls/Student Life; team building experience is necessary as is experience working with teens. The Summer Program The Upward Bound Summer Academy takes place on the campus of the University of New Hampshire where students live in a UNH residence hall, eat at a UNH dining hall, and attend classes in academic buildings throughout the campus. UB teachers are committed to education and to helping young people and have the opportunity to create an experiential curriculum that is both interesting and inspiring. The 2023 six-week summer program is scheduled to begin on Sunday, June 25 with an end date of Friday, August 4 excluding weekends. Training & Other Responsibilities Upward Bound Staff will provide pre-summer training on both an individual level and at a full staff afternoon retreat to help guide curriculum and to introduce the Upward Bound program. While working predominantly with your specific ECLIPSe groups, you will have the opportunity to interact with the entire program during our No Discount Policy ceremony. |

Institution Information | UNH TRIO Upward Bound, a federally funded college preparatory program, provides services at no cost to 114 students attending public high schools in Farmington, Manchester, Rochester, and Somersworth NH. Participants in the program will be the first in their family to earn a bachelor’s degree and/or come from a family with limited financial resources. Our mission is to help students develop the skills necessary to successfully graduate from high school and go on to college in order to earn a two or four-year degree within six-years of high school graduation. Since 1966, UNH Upward Bound has helped several thousand New Hampshire young people earn college degrees and improve their options for successful careers. Our program begins during the Academic Year where students will meet with advisers twice monthly in their schools and receive academic, career, and college assistance and guidance. In addition to in-school advising, students receive college & career guidance during grade-level workshops, have the opportunity to attend monthly Saturday Tutoring Academies at UNH and college, educational and cultural visits throughout New England. The program continues during the Summer Academic Academywhere program participants get to experience residence hall life while living with other Upward Bound students on the UNH Durham campus Monday through Friday. They take courses led by highly qualified teachers to prepare them for the upcoming academic year. In addition, students will get support through tutoring, creative problem-solving challenges, and culturally enriching activities. The University of New Hampshire is an R1 Carnegie classification research institution providing comprehensive, high-quality undergraduate and graduate programs of distinction. UNH is located in Durham on a 188-acre campus, 60 miles north of Boston and 8 miles from the Atlantic coast and is convenient to New Hampshire’s lakes and mountains.
