Responsibilities:

The UMBC Police Department has an internal promotional opportunity available for a UPO IV (Sergeant). The selected individual will function as a shift supervisor for police services.

  • Supervise daily operations for a shift
  • Set work priorities
  • Report Reviews
  • Evaluate Staff, Conduct Performance Reviews (PMP)
  • Make recommendations for appropriate counseling, and provide discipline
  • Complete necessary paperwork in accordance with departmental regulations
  • Participate in meetings and make policy/procedural recommendations
  • Assist in shift training and evaluate training needs
  • Perform duties of a UPO II or UPO III as necessary
Required Minimum Qualifications:

INTERNAL PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITY
Must be a current UMBC UPO III

  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED (some college preferred) and at least two years experience as a sworn police officer
  • Certification as a sworn Police Officer recognized by the Maryland Police Training Commission
  • Valid Class C Driver's License
  • Ability to work overtime and shift work is required 
Preferred Qualifications: 

Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Salary: Pay Range 16 (starting at $73,694) based on the University System of Maryland Pay Program and MOU
