Essential functions (job duties):

University Counselor I/II - Learning Support Engagement Coordinator – Academic Success Center

This highly collaborative position is responsible for facilitating intensive training and continuous professional development for peer leaders including Study Skills Coaches, Tutors and Supplemental Instruction Leaders, and other student leaders responsible for providing academic content support. Through partnerships with faculty, staff, and academic departments across campus, the Learning Support Engagement Coordinator will understand student needs and deliver training sessions to equip peer leaders with the skills, resources and knowledge to appropriately support students’ academic experiences and assist them toward graduation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work collaboratively with the leadership and staff of the Academic Success Center to develop and implement training and support for effective delivery of the services to students

Work collaboratively with the leadership team to implement professional development curriculum for student leaders

Provide guidance for student leaders supporting targeted student populations such as Warrior 360, residential students, first-year students, student athletes, etc.

Hire, train, and supervise Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders and provide appropriate coaching and support in order to maintain WSU’s SI certification through the International Center for SI

Supervise student leaders supporting large enrollment courses and implement programming to enhance academic support and activities

Serve as a resource/support for peer leaders in their development of in-person and online offerings

Maintain web-based instructional material to be used by peer leaders and students

Oversee daily operations of face-to-face and virtual SI sessions

Build and maintain relationships with faculty of historically high DFW courses

Increase visibility of ASC services by liaising with campus stakeholders including academic programs

In collaboration with program staff, oversee and provide insight on the selection, usage, and maintenance of online and in-person services

Present ASC workshops as part of the Student Success Workshop series

Facilitate guest lectures upon request

Maintain current knowledge of best practices in areas of student success and learning

Communicate regularly with academic staff to identify effective learning strategies and campus resource information to integrate into training sessions

Collaborate with other university services and programs such as Housing & Residential Life and Counseling & Psychological Services to foster a supportive and informed approach to student support

Work with Academic Success Center staff to develop and deliver workshops and small group activities on topics related to academic success.

Promote utilization of services by maintaining materials with current program information (including times and locations of all programs and sessions)

Assist in data collection, analysis and reporting for projects generated through the Academic Success Center

Demonstrate sensitivity for the appropriate support of a highly diverse staff and student body

Actively participate in national and regional programs and conferences

Foster additional opportunities that allow peer leaders to assist in meeting the goals of the Academic Success Center and the university

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in Education, Social Work, counseling or related fields; 2 years of experience in areas of advising, teaching, coaching and/or other forms of academic assistance, student support, and program development; Understanding of and appreciation for inclusion, including ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and identities


Preferred qualifications:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience working with students with disabilities is preferred
