POSITION DETAILS

The University Admissions Office is composed of two office sites, the CUNY Welcome Center, and the University Application Processing Center. The CUNY Welcome Center is the central student recruiting office for undergraduate and graduate programs at the City University of New York. The Welcome Center???s primary responsibility is to recruit and disseminate information about all CUNY colleges to prospective students and external organizations through extensive outreach efforts which include in-house counseling and recruitment activities.

Reporting to the University Executive Director of Admissions or their designee, the University Admissions Advisor ensures top-notch daily office operations, exceptional customer service, and effective student-centered solutions. This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule with some evenings and weekends, and travel to the five boroughs in New York City and the tri-state area. This role may require up to 50% travel throughout the year with potentially 8-10 weeks in the Fall and 6-8 weeks in the Spring.

In addition to the duties in the CUNY Title Overview, additional duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates an assigned recruitment territory, including sustaining relationships that may include a portfolio of high schools, community colleges, colleges, counselors, staff, community-based organizations, government agencies, internal partners, and external organizations.
  • Participates in implementing CUNY???s recruitment plans and programs to identify, attract, admit, and enroll a qualified and diverse student body.
  • Facilitates student recruiting activities, including coordinating and contributing to Information Sessions and outreach events at high schools, colleges, and other community offerings.
  • Assists with daily office customer service operations, including managing the intake and responses of the high-volume department main phone line and email account, and organizes and maintains files and records as directed.
  • Updates databases, lists, and files of the Office???s contacts for efficient outreach activities.
  • Coordinates the distribution of materials for recruitment activities.
  • Maintains correspondence with applicants, providing guidance on requirements for all CUNY programs and standards in a timely fashion, with necessary follow-up as needed, to encourage completion of all admission requirements.

NOTE : Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work in the office.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM

Bachelor???s degree required.

PREFERRED

  • Two years of relevant work experience in Admissions or related experience.
  • Commitment to customer service excellence, responsiveness and professionalism when collaborating with diverse stakeholders across different organizational levels.
  • Strong written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to conduct presentations and lead small group discussions, along with proficiency in multiple languages for effective communication with diverse audiences.
  • Detail oriented and accurate with strong organizational skills to establish plans, manage multiple assignments with conflicting priorities, and meet deadlines in a time-sensitive office.
  • Knowledge of practices and technologies used in college admissions, recruiting, and enrollment services.
  • Valid driver???s license.
  • Strong work ethic and character with a high level of personal integrity to maintain confidentiality and work with professional poise and discretion.
  • Computer proficiency using administrative, and academic databases, plus Microsoft Office programs, Adobe PDF, and remote/virtual meeting/conferencing and collaboration tools (MS Teams, Zoom, WebEx, etc.).

Participates in implementing CUNY's recruitment plans and programs in support of a strategy to identify, attract, admit and enroll a highly-qualified and diverse student body.

  • Demonstrates and maintains knowledge of CUNY's programs and degree requirements
  • Coordinates workshops, intake screenings, interviews and new student orientation
  • Counsels prospective applicants on requirements and standards and provides general program and service information in person or by telephone, e-mail or letter; follows up as needed
  • Coordinates and contributes to student recruiting activities such as group sessions and programs, direct recruiting, and outreach events at high schools and in the community
  • Represents the University Admissions Office to the CUNY Colleges' internal and external communities
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary range is $44,411 - $54,268, commensurate with qualifications, education and experience.
