Position Summary

The University of New Mexico's Communication & Marketing (UCAM) department is seeking a University Communication Representative to execute a variety of institutional-wide communication and public relations initiatives designed to enhance the university's ties to its internal and external constituencies. Produces and disseminates institutional-focused information via multiple media such as news releases, online services, audio/visual including video, multimedia content, and promotional materials. Writes for and edits institutional campus publications. May develop and coordinate website/internet communication resources. Works in a collaborative environment. Reports to the director of University News and Communication, the duties include, but are not limited to:

 

  • D isseminating communications through various media and digital technologies, including print, online, mobile, social, video and broadcasting to increase UNM’s brand presence, internal and external community awareness, understanding and support of UNM plans, policies, programs, services and activities
  • D evelop and deploy informative multi-media news stories, including video that highlights the University  and can be distributed via the campus website, social media or other channels of electronic distribution;
  • E dit communication content prepared by other campus departments for internal  and external dissemination;
  •  I dentify and propose solutions to complex issues, risks and/or crises and assist in providing crisis or emergency issues management support to senior UCAM staff; manage assigned media relations areas, including responding to routine inquiries, promoting UNM messaging and mitigating potentially sensitive or negative media coverage;
  •   B uild and maintain relationships with traditional news and social media outlets.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Expertise with new technology, including design software such as Adobe Creative Cloud (CC), including Adobe Premier, strongly preferred. Macintosh computer experience and working knowledge of Microsoft Office, bulk email platforms such as Constant Contact and other basic software knowledge required.

 

Qualified candidates must be self-starters and able to work as an integrated marketing communication team environment and have excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Candidates must be able to interact well with a diverse faculty, staff and student population in a professional and productive manner and create positive work relationships across campus and within UCAM.

  • Manage concurrent projects; a consummate professional and effective strategic communications practitioner.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication/written skills, strategic thinking, planning & problem-solving videographer, motivation, a strong desire to advance The University of New Mexico;
