The Sam Noble Museum Archaeology Department seeks an Undergraduate Student Collections Assistant to work 15 hours/week to assist the Archaeology Collections Manager/NAGPRA Coordinator and Curator of Archaeology with NAGPRA (Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act) compliance. This position will include inventorying, cataloging, rehousing, and the digitizing (electronic data capture) of archaeological artifacts and associated documentation. This position includes working with sensitive materials, including the remains of Native American ancestors and funerary objects.

Job Duties:

  • Inventory, cataloging, rehousing, and digitizing of artifacts.
  • Maintain the accuracy of collections data and information.
  • Handle small items with extreme care.
  • Use Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
  • Capable of working independently, but also in a collaborative/team environment.
  • Accurately perform data entry and write/print clearly and legibly.

Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the current Fall 2024 Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

  • Must attach Fall 2024 class schedule.

Skills:

  • Must be able to read and understand written or printed materials.
  • Interest in Anthropology, Archaeology, Museum Studies, or other museum-related discipline.

Department Preferences:

  • Background in Anthropology, Archaeology, Museum Studies, or other museum-related discipline.
  • Experience with Filemaker Pro or other database management environments preferred.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail and strong skills in documenting/ recording tasks and steps taken.
