Position Summary:
 
The mission of the UCI School of Physical Sciences is to uncover fundamental truths and to provide transformative discoveries that improve the world. Our aim is to deliver scientific breakthroughs that reshape our understanding of the physical world and provide solutions to the most profound problems of our age. The UCI Department of Mathematics is comprised of 43 senate faculty, 24 non-senate faculty, approximately 700 undergraduate students and 100 PhD students with approximately 60 Teaching Assistants per quarter. A highly productive and influential department on campus, the Mathematics Department is a workplace that strives for strong service and excellence, while inspiring creativity, professional development, teamwork, and support for all its constituents. In consultation with department leadership, uses professional concepts in analyzing and drafting annual department schedule for courses, seminars, and special events, taking into consideration faculty leaves, preferences, faculty course load, classroom availability, and enrollment trends and data. Course curriculum planning is analyzed closely to ensure it meets the needs of students for degree progression. Independently obtains classrooms for courses taking into account the requirements and restrictions of the Campus Scheduling Office and degree requirements. Oversees all planning, scheduling, and coordination elements of the undergraduate program within the department, including student affairs counseling.

Required:
 
  • 1-3 years of applicable working experience for an organization
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Knowledge of academic department, organization, and University policies, procedures, and directives, especially as related to course enrollment and student registration. 
  • Knowledge of department and school / college general and major course requirements. Interpersonal and strong customer service skills to work effectively with department senior management, faculty, staff, and students with the ability to clearly communicate and explain complicated procedures and policies. 
  • Ability in problem identification, critical thinking, reasoning, analysis to identify trends and patterns. 
  • Ability to find creative solutions to conflicting situations and willingness to innovate existing systems. 
  • Ability to complete work assignments among an environment with frequent interruptions and/or distractions. 
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and contribute both as an individual self-starter, and a team player to achieve the goals of the department. 
  • Experience in using organizational skills to coordinate and prioritize complex projects, paying special attention to detail and deadlines when faced with a high volume and fluctuating workload.

 


Preferred:
 
Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs, especially scheduling-related programs such as ESOC, R25, CRS, WebAdmin, WebGrades, CIM, CourseLeaf, Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel and Word.
