Position Summary/Description:

The University of North Carolina Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a fellowship-trained academic subspecialist to join its Division of Complex Family Planning. This position will join 3 well-established, mid-career and senior faculty in furthering the mission of the division.
One of 10 divisions in the UNC OB-GYN department, the Complex Family Planning Division was established in 2013. It is comprised of three faculty and two fellows who provide complex family planning services at UNC Hospitals and the local Planned Parenthood affiliate. The UNC Fellowship in Complex Family Planning has been in existence, with continuously matched fellows, since 2009, and achieved accreditation by the ACGME in February 2021. A Ryan Resident Training Program has been in place since 2008, with abortion and contraception training preceding that for many years.
Current members of the CFP Division include funded educators in the UNC School of Medicine, highly funded researchers, and the OB-GYN Residency Program Director, who collaborate with research and clinical colleagues from across the 14 schools of UNC Chapel Hill. The UNC Division of Complex Family Planning has achievable opportunities to expand its clinical expertise and reach, with ever-increasing practice locations across the UNC Health System and the State of North Carolina.
This is a faculty position on the Variable Track at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor. We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic individual with interest in research, advocacy, education and clinical care. The successful candidate will have a track record of promising skills in these areas and be dedicated to the tripartite mission of excellence in clinical care, education, and research.
Clinical duties will include:
* Consultation and surgical management for complex termination (e.g. chronic medical conditions, obesity, history of multiple cesarean sections) procedures, as well as complications (e.g. retained products of conception, uterine perforation)
* Consultation, diagnosis, and medical/surgical management of complex ectopic pregnancies (e.g. cesarean scar ectopics)
* Management of contraception in the setting of chronic medical co-morbidities, as well as complications related to long-acting contraceptives and sterilization procedures
* Provision of comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care to some of the most vulnerable populations in North Carolina, including the uninsured, undocumented and homeless. Work on patient and community-centered interventions to ensure our population's receipt of equitable reproductive health care.
* Train fellows, residents and medical students in Complex Family Planning. The successful candidate will be integrally involved particularly in the training of fellows and residents.
* Management of induced and spontaneous abortions for social indications, maternal health, fetal indications.
* Management of complicated contraception such as difficult IUD insertions or removals, implant removals and insertions, other consults, and sterilization counseling and surgery scheduling
* Possible provision of general OB-GYN care, including obstetrics and prenatal care.
This faculty position will have the potential to support and enhance the vital research and educational missions of the division.
The UNC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is one of the top programs in the country, with more than 80 faculty in 10 different divisions and more than 50 residents and fellows.
