Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
THIS POOL IS FOR TRIO Student Support Services STEM & Health Sciences- Peer Tutor ONLY.
Through a grant competition, funds are awarded to institutions of higher education to provide opportunities for academic development, assist students with basic college requirements, and to motivate students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education. Student Support Services (SSS) projects also may provide grant aid to current SSS participants who are receiving Federal Pell Grants (# 84.063). The goal of SSS is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants.
Description of Work Continued:
Tutors are responsible for providing one-on-one and/or small group academic assistance in the subject areas that they are approved to tutor, keeping accurate records of tutoring activities, creating lesson plans for students as needed, administering pre/post-tests to participants, reviewing academic progress of participants, completing monthly tutor reports, and attending mandatory monthly meetings and workshops.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
-Must be an undergraduate or graduate student who has completed at least one semester.
-Have an average of A’s or B’s in the course subject that will be tutored.
-Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.
Knowledge skills and abilities:
A basic knowledge of the subject(s) you desire to tutor
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to work well individually and with a team
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous tutoring experience is preferred, but not required.
